As a Water Design Engineer joining Kleinfelder's Water Technologies (KWT) team, you will play a key role in planning, designing, and delivering innovative water and wastewater infrastructure solutions. You'll collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and engage with clients to develop systems that improve water quality, enhance operational efficiency, and support sustainability goals.
This position supports our Toledo and Columbus, Ohio offices (McClure, Hilliard, and Defiance) and offers flexible remote work arrangements. While in-office presence is not required daily, travel to office or client sites should be expected as needed. KWT also supports flexible 40-hour workweeks to help maintain work-life balance.

What You'll Do:
Support Water Infrastructure Projects:
Lead and support water and wastewater infrastructure projects from conceptual planning through design and construction, working on a range of public and private sector initiatives including membrane treatment systems, reuse strategies, and system integration.
Design & Engineering Analysis:
Develop process designs, sizing and placement of equipment, and prepare detailed plans, specifications, and cost estimates for treatment systems and water resource infrastructure.
Technical Documentation & Permitting:
Support the development of reports, technical memoranda, and permitting documentation for local, state, and federal agencies. Ensure documentation meets client and regulatory expectations.
Collaborate Across Teams:
Coordinate with internal engineers, designers, controls specialists, and field staff to ensure integration and quality across project phases. Communicate effectively with clients to align on objectives and ensure successful outcomes.
Modeling & Planning:
Perform process, hydrologic, and hydraulic modeling to inform infrastructure planning and design. Participate in feasibility studies, site planning, and treatment evaluations.
Construction Support:
Provide construction-phase services including bidding support, submittal reviews, construction administration, and field inspections to ensure quality execution of designs.
What You'll Need to Succeed:
Professional Experience:
A minimum of 10+ years of related experience in a consulting engineering firm or related service business, with proven expertise in water and/or wastewater infrastructure. Alternatively, 6 years of related experience with a Master's degree, or 4 years with a Ph.D. Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and permitting requirements is essential.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency or familiarity with AutoCAD, GIS, and hydraulic modeling tools. A willingness to learn and grow technical capabilities is essential.
