Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Description

We are currently hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer for a client that specializes in designing and manufacturing industrial automated equipment. This is a 9-month Contract-to-Hire role in the Greater Columbus region. During the 9-month period, you will receive accrued PTO, holiday pay, a 401k to contribute to, and benefits/insurance. After the 9-month period, you will be eligible to go on direct with the client.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a Project Manager and other team members to assess project assignments and ideas.
  • Interact and communicate with customers.
  • Design safe and cost-effective machine concepts, parts models, and assemblies using customer requirements.
  • Detail and tolerance parts and assembly drawings, and release them to the machine shop.
  • Support the machine shop with part detail drawings.
  • Research and order purchase content for machine designs including pneumatic cylinders, valves, air prep systems, bearings, motors, drive systems, sensors, and other devices used in automated machinery design.
  • Document the bill of materials.
  • Interface with and support Assembly, Electrical, and Software Design teams.
Essential Skills
  • Experience in mechanical design engineering within 3D design for machine design.
  • Experience with automated equipment design is preferred.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks is strongly preferred, but other CAD software experience is acceptable.
  • Experience with 3D modeling, geometric dimensioning, and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Understanding of Bill of Materials (BoM) and experience in releasing BoM documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or 8+ years of experience as a Design Engineer within SolidWorks doing equipment design.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer with 3D design for machine design/industrial equipment.
  • Experience with equipment layout and design in a high-volume manufacturing environment is a plus.
Work Environment

This position is based in an office environment with some interactions on the shop floor. You will be part of a small, tight-knit company where you can work on new and exciting projects every week. You will have the opportunity to sharpen your design skills and become a Subject Matter Expert by working on turnkey projects for your clients.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.87 - $48.08/hr.
